Corona: Akshar Patel
The year 2021 has been very unique for Team India’s left-arm spinner Axar Patel. This year he made his debut in Test cricket. Then Akshar Patel got hit by Corona and stayed away from IPL 2021 for about two weeks. Now he is completely fine again and is ready to go to England with Team India. Talking about Corona’s experience, Akshar Patel said that at first they were not thinking much but then after 15 days they got upset due to not being negative. However, he did not have any symptoms associated with this disease and he was doing workouts.
Talking to Indian Express, Akshar Patel said, ‘I got a call at five in the morning that my test is positive. But he (Delhi Capitals) wanted a second test so that there was no disturbance. My second test also came positive. I was not scared but I asked myself, everything was going well, my bowling was also rhythm. So why now? I had 15 days before IPL so I was not thinking much. However, even after 15 days, if the report did not come negative, I got upset. I had no symptoms. Had a headache for only one day. I was doing my workouts and meditation.’
Akshar Patel said about the challenges after becoming Corona that the most difficult task is loneliness. Then when people ask about this too, the problem increases. He said, ‘One has to be alone. There is no one to talk to. Everything depends on passing loneliness. Also, it depends on how you talk to friends and family. I kept saying that whoever talks will not ask how time is going and how I have felt. Talk plain It is quite erratic to ask how the corona patient felt, how it happened. The challenge is to keep the loneliness away. IPL teammates used to call every other day and talk different things. I used to watch movies, shows. ‘
Akshar Patel said that it is very difficult to get used to the big bubble. He says that there is no problem with this for Indian players because they remain closed in the hotel anyway. But the bubble is very difficult. One has to focus on cricket. He said, ‘I get angry. I think Quarantine should be discontinued but it was necessary for everyone’s safety. Hopefully, things will change soon. ‘
Difference between the dressing room of India and England
Akshar Patel told The Indian Express, ‘The experience of playing there was the best. I had no idea how to play county cricket or how the culture is there. In India, we cannot keep a phone in the dressing room, but there is its permission. Players keep watching football matches in the dressing room. This is a different type of environment. The first few days, I was trying to mix with the rest of the players. I was very shy and did not know anyone. After the first match, I started talking to teammates and started laughing. There is a drinking culture after every match. I don’t drink but used to play music and dance. ‘
Phone to the dressing room in England
Stating the difference in the dressing rooms of Gujarat and Durham, he said, ‘There is a difference of culture. Here we cannot take the phone but there we can take the phone. There, the players can talk about the work in the dressing room. Or watch football on iPad. When they match, then the madness of football is even more. There cannot be such an expectation in Gujarat if a coach will run away if a player does so. ‘
Akshar Patel said that in England, there are no doors in the washroom of the dressing room. Due to this, they cannot play more than five matches there. Akshar also told that when English players do not understand spin bowling, they start playing sweep shots. He said, “If they are in doubt whether the ball is spinning or not, they start playing sweep or reverse sweep. If someone bowls a stump to stump then it becomes difficult for them but if the ball is on the off-stump or leg stump then they sweep. They cannot read the ball with my hand. Instead, they go where the ball is pitching. ‘
