Stephen Fleming, the head coach of Chennai Super Kings , told that Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s decision to leave the IPL captaincy was not a sudden one. He talked about leaving the captaincy of CSK during IPL 2021. Stephen Fleming said that the decision of timing to leave the captaincy of CSK was left to MS Dhoni. He gave this information in the press conference after the first match of IPL 2022. In the first match, CSK had to face defeat by six wickets at the hands of Kolkata Knight Riders, who lost the final last time. This was Ravindra Jadeja‘s first match as captain.

Stephen Fleming told reporters, We talked about it. MS spoke to me about this during the last season. He had to take the decision of timing. MS Dhoni captained Chennai Super Kings in almost 12 seasons. During this, he won the team the title four times and made him runner-up five times. He handed over the captaincy of CSK to his trusted Ravindra Jadeja on 24 March. Jadeja has been a part of CSK since 2012.

In a brief statement issued by CSK, it was said that Dhoni will continue with the team this season and even further. MS Dhoni has been a part of CSK since the inception of IPL in 2008. Dhoni parted ways when this team was banned in 2016 and 2017.

Stephen Fleming told that the change of captaincy from Dhoni to Jadeja has happened easily. He told, ‘It was decided that during the IPL, Jadeja will be given a chance without any pressure. This information was given to N Srinivasan through the team. So we totally talked about it. There has been a change of captaincy here and it worked well.
