Yuzvendra Chahal opened mystery after 8 years, told how Rohit Sharma gave him a chance to debut in IPL after becoming captain.

Yuzvendra Chahal told that Rohit Sharma is like an elder brother to him. When he came to the Indian team, he used to get up and eat and drink along with Rohit Sharma.

Rohit Sharma gave him a chance

Yuzvendra Chahal has a special relationship with Team India captain Rohit Sharma in ODIs and T20s. Both are often seen laughing, pulling each other’s legs. Now Yuzvendra Chahal told how Rohit Sharma made his debut on IPL in the year 2013. He told that Rohit came to his room after becoming the captain of Mumbai Indians. Here he told Chahal that he will make him part of the playing eleven (Mumbai Indians). Till that time no one knew Chahal. Also, the Wankhede pitch was helpful for fast bowlers and Mumbai had big spinners like Harbhajan Singh and Pragyan Ojha.

Chahal said in a conversation with India TV, ‘I have a close relationship with Rohit Bhaiya because we have known each other since 2011 when I am in Mumbai Indians. I made my IPL debut only because of Rohit Bhaiya. I was not getting a chance and Rohit Bhaiya became the captain. He came to my room and said that you are playing the match. I was surprised because we already had Bhajji Pa (Harbhajan Singh), Ojha Bhaiya (Pragyan Ojha) and we had never played with three spinners. Chahal admitted that he had bowled well at that time and he also had wickets in his account. However, he said that Rohit’s decision to leave veteran players like Harbhajan and Ojha and take him into the team was interesting.

Rohit said- I will feed you cricket

Chahal said, ‘My Champions Trophy was good and I got wickets in practice matches. But three spinners could not be played on Bombay’s wicket. Bhajju Pa and Ojha Bhaiya are test legends at that time. So I got very excited and Rohit Bhaiya assured me that I will feed you. That’s where our bonding started.

Yuzvendra Chahal did not get any wickets in his first match in IPL and after that, he did not play for Mumbai again. But this season, Mumbai Indians won the IPL Trophy for the first time under the captaincy of Rohit Sharma. Chahal told that Rohit Sharma is like an elder brother to him. When he came to the Indian team, he used to get up and eat and drink along with Rohit Sharma.
