IPL 2021 in India had to be stopped midway due to Coronavirus. Now the second leg of the tournament will be held from September 17 to October 15. Two days after this, the T20 World Cup will start. BCCI wanted to host the T20 World Cup in India but two issues came in the way. It is learned that he did not get any tax exemption from the Government of India. Also, the BCCI is concerned about how eager international players will be to return to India after the IPL is suspended due to the COVID-19 cases in the bio-bubble.

A few weeks ago, during a virtual meeting with all the state associations, the board members were told by the BCCI office-bearers that shifting the T 20 World Cup to the UAE would save around 41 percent of the board’s total earnings. If the T-20 World Cup happens in India, then the board will have to pay a heavy tax. When he hosted the T20-World Cup in 2016, the BCCI did not get tax exemption. Also, the board does not want to take any risk due to the detection of new delta variants of the Kovid-19 virus in India.

The BCCI had already planned the UAE as a backup, with Oman hosting the qualifiers. The board had also booked hotel rooms last month and in collaboration with the ICC, approached the Oman Cricket Board to come along. With the T-20 World Cup taking place almost immediately after the IPL, the BCCI feels that if it is held in the UAE, it will be easier for the players to join the national team.
